I can't stand it anymore. I've been so busy and unable to do much writing, while silently watching the misinterpretations of Christians and Christianity go by virtually unchecked. All while constantly being asked to defend, or asked how to. So, I've got a new laptop thats easy to carry around and hook up anywhere (especially away from the sweet noise of the daughters!) so I can fire up the commentary and hopefully help jumpstart some of the thinking and defending.
Anyway - here's an example. Remember Michael Kinsley? He was quite a hoot to watch years ago mano-a-mano with Pat Buchannan on CrossFire. Well in the current issue of Time Magazine (September 17 2007) he's describing why Mitt Romney shouldn't get away with the JFK religion defense (which I agree with, but for different reasons). BUT - he throws in a particularly silly statement.
"For me, any candidate who believes in the literal truth of the Old Testament, the New Testament, the Book of Mormon, or the novels of Jane Austin is probably too credulous to be President."
Sheesh. Why is that? Is it because he doesn't understand the Truth claims of Christianity? Is it because of the unfortunate misinterpretations of the Christian masses that tend to confuse many? I suspect so. I suspect he's also never really thought about it.
Anyway - here's the 2 minute drill for Michael: "Friend - just what do you mean by 'literal'? Which issues in the OT/NT are you having a hard time with? Let's talk about those and let me discuss with you why it seems to me that the Truth Claims of Christianity make more sense than any other - especially of naked materialism and Naturalism."
What would you say to Michael? What do you think his issues with Christianity are? What do you think the cause of these issues is?
Glad to be back - Grace to you, and Peace...
I fell very nice while reading this post I got to know many new things about Christianity,
